Much respected filly takes on eight rivals on 1000 Guineas day
Dubai: Godolphin’s highly-regarded but lightly-raced Skiffle makes her seasonal debut in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes, the main support race on 1,000 Guineas day at Newmarket racecourse in England.
The daughter of Dubawi had been supplemented for the Group 1 Oaks in June last season where she finished fifth, following an impressive victory in a Goodwood Listed contest earlier.
Appleby said: “Skiffle has done well from three to four and I have been pleased with her preparation.
“Stepping up in trip will be her forte later in the season, but this looks a good starting point and she will be fine on the forecast quick ground.”
Skiffle, the mount of William Buick, takes on eight fillies and mares including Somehow, Group 1 E P Taylor Stakes seventh Nezwaah and Muffri’ha, who was third in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan in March.
Skiffle holds entries for several top contests including the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.
Odds: 9/4 Somehow, 7/2 Muffri’Ha, Nezwaah, 8/1 Skiffle, 10/1 Aljazzi, Silver Step, 14/1 Aim To Please, 16/1 Elbereth, 20/1 Rosental.
