Stan Wawrinka
Top seed Stan Wawrinka was handed a place in the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open when opponent Rogerio Dutra Silva was forced to retire yesterday. Wawrinka, the World No. 3, was leading 5-2 in the opening set when the Brazilian quit due to an ankle injury.
Wawrinka will now go on to play sixth seed Sam Querrey in the last eight after the American beat Croatian Franko Skugor 6-2, 6-3. Otherwise it was a bad day for the leading seeds as Albert Ramos-Vinolas and John Isner both suffered second-round defeats.
Meanwhile, Leander Paes and Scott Lipsky progressed to the semi-finals of after getting a walkover from their opponents Rogerio Dutra Silva and Paolo Lorenzi at the Lyon event. The Paes-Lipsky pair had defeated Tommy Robredo and David Marrero 6-7, (3), 7-6(3), 10-4 in the first round of the Euro 482,060 clay court event. The Indo-American team will next face top seeds Jean-Julien Rojer of The Netherlands and Romania’s Horia Tecau in the final four contest.
