Sidney Crosby crashed into the boards late in the first period of Monday’s Game 6 against the Washington Capitals, and some are wondering why he wasn’t removed from the game by concussion spotters.
Crosby missed Game 3 of the series with a concussion, one of several the Pittsburgh Penguins captain has suffered in his career, and was slow to get up following his scary crash.
The NHL updated its concussion protocol for the 2016-17 season, with four concussion spotters watching each game on television, with an additional team-affiliated spotter at each rink.
None of them flagged Crosby’s collision for further review, and the centre was on the ice to start the second period.
