Hogg: Rohit not far off from hitting a big score

Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain, chose to bowl first against Rising Pune Supergiant at the Wankhede Stadium. His decision was not surprising – Mumbai have won five out of five matches when they have had to chase. Rohit felt the pitch looked a little dry, and expected dew to set in during the second innings.

An injury – Rohit did not specify what kind – to Krunal Pandya forced Mumbai into making one change to the team that beat Delhi Daredevils on Saturday. They replaced him with another spin-bowling allrounder in Karn Sharma. This was the first time Karn had featured in Mumbai’s line-up; he played one game for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009 and 52 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013 to 2016.

Rising Pune made no changes to the side that beat Sunrisers on Saturday. That win was their third in six games.

Mumbai sit on top of the IPL points table with six wins in seven games, their only defeat so far coming in their first match of the season, against Rising Pune.
